Walter Milam
Deacon
Walter was raised in Cuyama Valley, between Bakersfield and Santa Maria, and he attended a variety of churches and denominations during his childhood. Despite an early belief of Jesus as his Savior, Walter did not live a life of submission until his college years, where he trusted in Jesus as both Savior and Lord.
Walter moved to Bakersfield in 2008 to attend college at Cal State, Bakersfield. He left prior to completing his Bachelors to attend the Ventura County deputy sheriff academy. As a deputy sheriff, he lateralled to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to return to Bakersfield. Walter completed his Bachelors in Criminal Justice and later a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He is currently working on a Doctorate in Public Administration. Walter is now a 15 year veteran and a sergeant with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
Walter served as a deacon for 7 years at Crossway Baptist Church, including 2 years as a treasurer.
Walter met his wife Erika at Crossway and together they have 3 children, Wally, Milly, and Olly. Walter enjoys board games, reading nonfiction/fantasy/science fiction, and has a heart for missions.
